Living a Spirit-Led Life
November 26, 2024
Hey Clawson Family!
Song:
Scripture:
Ephesians 4:17-24
Living as Children of Light
17 With the Lord’s authority I say this: Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused. 18 Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him. 19 They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity.
20 But that isn’t what you learned about Christ. 21 Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, 22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.
Devotional:
Living a Spirit-led life begins with a choice to “put off” the old self and embrace the transformation God offers through His Spirit. This new life is not just a change in behavior but a complete renewal of the mind and heart.
When we accept Jesus, the Holy Spirit begins to work within us, leading us away from the patterns of the world and into God’s truth. This requires daily intentionality—laying down old habits, desires, and attitudes that oppose God’s will and embracing the new self, created to reflect God’s righteousness and holiness.
But how do we live a Spirit-led life in practical terms?
1. Daily Surrender
Surrendering to the Holy Spirit means allowing Him to guide your thoughts, words, and actions. Ask the Lord each day, “What would you have me do?” Let the Spirit be your compass, pointing you toward God’s will.
2. Renewing Your Mind
Verse 23 emphasizes being “made new in the attitude of your minds.” This happens when we immerse ourselves in God’s Word, allowing it to reshape how we think and respond to the world around us. Transformation begins internally before it manifests externally.
3. Walking in Righteousness and Holiness
Living a Spirit-led life means choosing righteousness over sin, even when it is inconvenient or counter-cultural. This isn’t about perfection but about letting the Spirit empower you to live in a way that honors God.
4. Staying Sensitive to the Spirit
Paul warns of the danger of a hardened heart. A Spirit-led life is marked by sensitivity to conviction and a willingness to repent when we stray. Cultivate a soft heart by staying in prayer and worship, continually inviting the Spirit to search and purify you.
Living a Spirit-led life is a journey, not a one-time event. It requires persistence, grace, and a deep dependence on God. As you walk in the Spirit, you will not only experience personal renewal but also become a light to those around you, reflecting the righteousness and holiness of Christ.
Journal:
In your journal answer the following questions:
1. What areas of your life do you need to surrender to the Holy Spirit?
2. How can you renew your mind daily to align with God’s truth?
3. Are there any habits or attitudes of the “old self” that the Spirit is calling you to put off today?
Training:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of Your Spirit who leads and transforms us. Help me to put off my old self and embrace the new life You have given me. Renew my mind and make me sensitive to Your voice. Guide me to walk in righteousness and holiness, reflecting Your love and truth in all that I do.
In Jesus name Amen
