The Trap of Gossip

March 25, 2025

Hey Clawson family!

Song:

Scripture:

Proverbs 16:28 (NKJV)

“A perverse man sows strife, and a whisperer separates the best of friends.”

Devotional:

Gossip doesn’t always look like malicious rumors. Sometimes, it’s a prayer request shared in the wrong spirit, or a “venting” session that becomes character assassination. Gossip is one of the enemy’s favorite tools because it feels harmless—until it isn’t. It kills trust, unity, and joy. To steward our words well, we must reject the temptation to talk about others and instead speak to them in love.

Journal Questions:

• Have you ever been hurt by gossip?

• Have you unintentionally participated in gossip?

• How can you shut down gossip in your conversations moving forward?

Challenge:

Today, if someone starts to gossip around you, shift the conversation or gently say, “Let’s not talk about them like that.”

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, convict me when I’m tempted to speak or listen to gossip. Give me the courage to protect others’ reputations and to promote peace. Guard my tongue and align my words with Your truth. Amen.
